He has been living in exile in Spain since 17 February last, after spending four years and eleven months unjustly detained. He was arrested on 18 March 2003, along with 73 comrades and one female comrade. At the time of his arrest he was General Secretary of the United Workers' Council of Cuba (CUTC), an organization for the defence of the trade union rights of Cuban workers, and Director of the Varela Project.
